World BPO/ITO Forum 2010

Public-private delegation participated in the World BPO/ITO Forum 2010, New Jersey, USA, an event focused on outsourcing and offshoring, to help position Uruguay in this sector.

The World BPO/ITO Forum 2010 was held in New Jersey, USA, in the last week of July. It gathered for 48 hours representatives of over 250 companies that hire or provide outsourcing and offshoring services and representatives of investment promotion agencies. Several countries or regions that promote investments in this sector were present, including Brazil, Costa Rica, Germany, Hungary, Philippines, Poland, Scotland and Uruguay, which was represented by a public-private delegation composed of Uruguay XXI and private sector actors.

In Uruguay's stand, coordinated by Uruguay XXI, were present three free zones focused on the services sector: Aguada Park, which was recently inaugurated, and WTC Free Zone and Parque de las Ciencias, two free zones under construction. The Uruguayan delegation had the opportunity to participate in a panel on "The rise of nearshoring: finding value closer to home", in which Mario Tucci participated in representation of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI). The global firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, sponsor of the event, also had representation from its office in Uruguay.

The delegation accomplished its goal of "putting Uruguay on the map" by generating awareness of the potential of Uruguay in this sector. This event is the first one in a series of efforts that the public and private sectors are planning together to promote the country abroad.
