IDA Program

With the aim of supporting commercial management, promotion and dissemination of the Uruguayan publishing sector abroad, Uruguay XXI together with the Ministry of Education and Culture present the IDA Program, a pilot support for the internationalization of the publishing sector.

This initiative seeks to encourage the export of contemporary Uruguayan literature through support for publishers and authors with companies duly constituted at the national or international level.

What are the modalities of support?

Three lines of support have been provided with non-reimbursable funds:

LINE A - Support for the translation of literary works (for foreign publishers)

Up to USD 3,000 per work

This line serves foreign publishers who wish to publish, in a language other than Spanish, a Uruguayan book of any genre that has been previously published in physical format or e-book and belongs to a writer from Uruguay who is alive at the time of application. The selection of the translator will be the responsibility of the applicant company and its trajectory will be taken into account in the evaluation.

LINE B - Support for the translation of extracts, chapters and catalogues (for Uruguayan publishers)

Up to USD 1,000 per work

Uruguayan publishers or Uruguayan authors with legal personality, who have a work edited in physical format or e-book, may receive support to translate an extract that allows them to expand their dissemination in international markets. This support may also be requested for the translation of catalogues.

LINE C - Support for the production of Uruguayan audiobooks (for Uruguayan publishers)

Up to USD 3,000 per work

Uruguayan publishers or authors with legal status, who have a work edited in physical format or e-book of a writer from Uruguay who is alive at the time of application, may access this support for the production of the work in audiobook format. The selection of the recording studio and broadcaster will be the responsibility of the applicant company. Previous experience will be taken into account in the evaluation.

Application Process

  • PHASE I. Application: publishers and authors interested in applying to the program should do so by completing the "Application Form" and sending all the required documentation. If it fulfills the established requirements, the applicant will pass to the phase of diagnosis and approval.
  • PHASE II. Evaluation: will be in charge of an evaluation panel made up of a representative of the Uruguayan Chamber of Books, a representative of the Ministry of Education and Culture and a representative of Uruguay XXI. This tribunal will define the pertinence of the request for support for the translation of the work or the production of the audiobook, as appropriate, and may reject those requests that in its opinion do not contribute to the achievement of the objectives proposed by the program. The evaluation will be carried out according to the evaluation criteria specified in the bases and conditions of each support line.
  • PHASE III. Financing: the beneficiary will receive in advance 50% of the total amount within five working days from the signing of the contract and upon presentation of the invoice in the case of foreign companies and official receipt in the case of domestic companies. The remaining 50% will be paid upon delivery of the final product and presentation of the corresponding invoice or receipt. Uruguay XXI will have a term of 45 working days, from the moment that all the required documentation is presented, to make this payment.
