15 referents of Uruguayan children's and young adults' literature were selected to exhibit their works and participate in the event.

The Bologna Children's Book Fair 2020 (BCBF 2020) will take place from Monday 30 March to Thursday 2 April 2020 in Bologna, Italy.

Within the framework of the implementation of policies aimed at the internationalization of the publishing sector, Uruguay XXI and the National Direction of Culture (DNC) will develop an updated catalogue of Uruguayan authors in the sector and will support two publishers and one agent to participate in the fair.

The main objective of Uruguay XXI at the BCBF is to promote the national publishing business of children's and young adults' literature. In this edition 2020 Uruguay will have a country stand of 16 square meters, in which various proposals selected by the call's board will be exhibited.

Fourteen professionals from the Uruguayan publishing industry will exhibit their works at the Bologna Children's Fair 2020 and two publishers and a rights agent will receive financial support to attend. The beneficiaries were selected unanimously by a panel made up of representatives from Uruguay XXI, the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) and the Uruguayan Chamber of Books (CUL).

One of the modalities of participation consists in the integration of Uruguayan children's and young people's literature into the catalogue of exportable offer. In this modality were selected: Amanuense SRL, Natalia Cardozo, Matías Castro, Criatura Editora, Editorial Basilisa, Valentina Echeverría, Nino Fernández, Jorge Matos, María José Pita, Claudia Prezioso, Sebastián Santana, Dani Scharf, Eduardo Sganga and Alfredo Soderguit.

The second type of support facilitates the presence of three publishers and/or agents in the Bologna Children's Book Fair 2020 through a financial contribution of $ 45,000. The beneficiaries will be able to use the facilities of the country stand to hold meetings, will have a previous commercial preparation and accompaniment at the fair, and will be present in the BCBF catalogue. Amanuense SRL, Editorial Basilisa and Jorge Alberto Varela Hernández were the beneficiaries of this opportunity.

Uruguay is participating in this important event since 2011, but it is from 2019 onwards that it will have a country stand, offering the possibility of using these facilities not only to the beneficiaries of the calls, but to all Uruguayan professionals in the sector, who participate year after year.

The Bologna Children's Book Fair has been held for 55 years in the city of Bologna, in the Bologna Fiere enclosure. In the course of four days, more than 26,000 representatives of the children's and young people's publishing industry will tour this 20,000-square-meter venue where the copyrtight of the world's children and young people's works are negotiated and where illustrators have a privileged place.

Since its inception, this fair has been chosen globally as the main space where trends are defined and new talent is discovered. For this purpose, since 1967, the fair has had an exhibition of 75 works by illustrators, selected from over 3000 works presented through an annual competition. After the BCBF, this exhibition travels to other illustration circuits in China, Japan, the United States and Thailand, among others. This year, this prestigious selection includes the Uruguayan illustrator Eduardo Sganga.

Publishers, authors, illustrators, literary agents, distributors, translators and other professionals working in the world of editing and publishing stories aimed at children and adolescents will have a meeting space at the main event of the sector.
