The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Parliament of Uruguay are jointly organizing a regional seminar on climate change for parliaments in Latin America and the Caribbean. The activity seeks to bring together parliamentarians in a critical dialogue to improve climate action in the region.

The meeting, open to IPU member parliaments and other national parliaments in the region, will take place from June 28-30.

The seminar will provide an opportunity for parliaments to share best practices, experiences and lessons learned from their national efforts to address climate change, including through the implementation of the Paris Agreement. In line with the Nusa Dua Declaration on Mobilizing Parliaments to Act on Climate Change adopted at the 144th IPU Assembly (March 2022), this seminar also aims to promote stronger regional cooperation to foster the development of joint parliamentary solutions to address the crisis.

The activities will be conducted face-to-face and will include plenary discussions and presentations by regional and international experts as well as parliamentarians. The overall objective of the seminar is to facilitate knowledge sharing among parliaments in the Latin American and Caribbean region and to engage participants in critical discussions to identify the most efficient and impactful ways to improve parliamentary action on climate change and ensure the implementation of national and international climate agreements.
