The Uruguayan feature film "9", by Martín Barrenchea and Nicolás Branca, won the award for best foreign film at the National Film Awards in the United Kingdom, thanks to the virtual votes of more than three and a half million fans from around the world.

The film tells the story of an up-and-coming Rio de la Plata soccer star who, under the demands of his father's professional representation, delves into the less glamorous facets of the soccer world.

The Uruguayan-Argentine co-production, jointly produced by U Films and Pensa&Rocca Cine, shared the nomination with outstanding productions such as Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's Madres Paralelas and Ryusuke Hamaguchi's Oscar-winning Drive My Car, as well as other French and Indian productions.
