Diego Ruete
A chef and educator, Diego Ruete embodies Uruguay’s culinary identity, promoting the richness of its produce and the value of cuisine as an expression of the country. He directs Petit Gourmet, a gardening and cooking school for children, and is a co-founder of the Huertas Comunitarias collective.
Diego Ruete (1975) has three children; he is a preschool teacher and chef, and has been running Petit Gourmet—a gardening and cooking school for children—for more than 10 years. He is also a co-founder of the civic collective Huertas Comunitarias Montevideo and directs Educocina Para Todos, another collective that brings the experience of planting and cooking to public schools in Montevideo and throughout the country on a volunteer basis.
