María Noel Riccetto

A distinguished dancer, an international figure in the world of dance, and the artistic director of the Sodre National Ballet. Her talent and excellence represent Uruguayan culture around the world.

María Noel Riccetto is a renowned Uruguayan dancer. She began her training at the National School of Dance and was later hired by SODRE. In 1998, she was named “Revelation of the Year” by Uruguayan dance critic Washington Roldan.

In 1999, Riccetto joined the corps de ballet of the American Ballet Theatre, and three years later she was promoted to soloist with the company. She also performed the dance scenes for actress Mila Kunis in the 2010 film *Black Swan*, a movie about ballet dancers in New York.

After 13 years dancing with the American Ballet, she returned to Uruguay in 2012 to dance with the Sodre National Ballet, directed by Argentine Julio Bocca.

In 2017, she was honored at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow for her role as Tatiana in *Onegin*, becoming the first Uruguayan to win the award for Best Dancer at the *Benoise de la Danse*, the world’s most prestigious award in classical dance.

In November 2019, she was named a UNICEF Uruguay Goodwill Ambassador.

In 2019, she announced her retirement as a dancer with the Sodre National Ballet.

She currently serves as the institution’s director.
