“The Uruguayan audiovisual industry is going through one of its best times,” published by the Spanish media El País about this Uruguayan industry that releases about 20 films a year and that in recent years has positioned itself as a destination chosen by international production companies to shoot numerous projects.

The publication highlighted the arrival of projects from platforms such as Netflix, Amazon, or HBO in the country. It also highlighted, through statements made by the president of the Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency (ACAU), Facundo Ponce de León, the “virtuous combination of well-directed public policies, technical and artistic talent,” as well as the “short distances and variety of locations within a few kilometers around,” which Uruguay offers as differentials for international projects.

“Uruguay has no snow, great lakes, or mountains, but it can boast of its almost infinite ocean beaches, the ancient charm of Colonia del Sacramento, or the rural landscapes of its Villa Serrana. And among the most precious is Montevideo, which has surprised more than one director of photography with an eclectic architectural heritage favored by a graceful light. In its historic center, for example, there are superb corners with a European flair, old balconies typical of Havana or Art Deco portals that make it look like New York,” the publication said.
