Ana Bidault is a Montevideo based illustrator and part of the Astound roster, creating vibrant magical worlds through digital art, hand lettering, and book cover design.

Ana Bidault is an illustrator based in Montevideo, Uruguay, whose love of books began when her grandmother gifted her her first copy of Harry Potter.

She loves the endless possibilities, vibrant colors, and polished finish of digital illustration. Still, most of her projects begin by pouring her ideas onto traditional pencil and paper. Growing up in Catalunya, surrounded by folklore and art, Ana found in illustration her own kind of magic to bring her favorite characters and creatures to life.

With her background in graphic design, Ana brings a holistic approach to book covers. Alongside enchanting illustrations, she speciallizes in designing hand-lettered titles and intricate foil details, filling every project with charm and whimsy.

In recent years, Ana has fulfilled her dream of illustrating books for publishers around the world as part of the Astound roster. She also participates in national events and has built a small but powerful community on Patreon.

“Ut conclave sine libris, ita corpus sine anima”

This piece, rich in symbolism, is a representation of my love for books. At the top, the four seasons and the cycle of life are depicted as a symbol of the joy of reading throughout the year and at every stage of life. At the bottom, two skeletons complete that cycle and represent the end of one story as the beginning of another. At the center, a dragon, symbol of fantasy, my favorite genre, sleeps not on gold, but in a library filled with books, his true treasure. The text “Ut conclave sine libris, ita corpus sine anima” (“A room without books is like a body without a soul”) reinforces this idea. Finally, the small detail of the bee carved into the frame refers to Sieteaguas, one of my favorite book sagas, and also to my own tattoo, a symbol of hard and constant work.

“The Illustrator”

Autorretrato digital criado para celebrar meu aniversário de 29 anos, inspirado na estética gráfica do tarot. É um exercício que me permite olhar para trás e valorizar minha evolução: como minhas habilidades melhoraram ao longo do tempo, e como meus interesses, estilo e visão artística foram mudando. Este autorretrato em particular tornou-se uma parte importante da minha marca pessoal como ilustradora.

"The Bestiary"

A portfolio development project with the goal of creating an illustrated bestiary of magical creatures. After several years working as a book illustrator, I decided to start this project alongside my client commissions. The idea was to develop a strong portfolio that would position me as a fantasy illustrator and allow me to apply for projects aligned with that profile. Over time, the project grew and evolved into a collection of exclusive cards and stickers that became part of the monthly rewards on my Patreon. I have also created coloring pages, and my dream is that one day this Bestiary will become a printed book, a kind of illustrated field guide to the magical world I have been building.

“Witchcraft in Bloom”

Cover illustration created as part of a portfolio development initiative in collaboration with Astound. The brief was titled Fantastical Flora and consisted of designing a book cover about the connection between the properties of plants and witchcraft.

“Crystalomancy”

Illustration created as a portfolio development project. The concept for this illustration emerged during a commission. Although it was ultimately discarded, it was one of my favorites, so I decided to revisit it and turn it into a portfolio piece.
