Familia Traversa
This establishment, its facilities, vineyards, and modern oenology technologies rely on tradition and the supervision of the entire Traversa family to produce high-quality products.
It was 1904 when Carlos Domingo Traversa and his parents arrived in Uruguay. The son of Italian immigrants, he spent his youth as a vineyard worker and in 1937, together with his wife, María Josefa Salort, he was able to purchase 5 hectares of land in Montevideo, in a region providing optimum conditions for growing vines.
In 1956, he founded the winery aided by his children Dante, Luis, and Armando. It is them and his grandchildren who proudly keep his dream alive today.
A member of the family supervises the maintenance of existing plantations, new plantings, the wine making, bottling and distribution processes, marketing, and customer service.
The grapes are machine-processed in cutting-edge facilities, and wines are made using the most advanced oenology technologies.
With a storage capacity of 11 million litres, our winery has the highest output in Uruguay, using cutting-edge technology and having great stainless-steel storage capacity for controlled-temperature fermentation.
Additionally, we possess a plant dedicated to producing natural sparkling wines using the Charmat method.
The lab is also equipped with state-of-the-art technology, thus allowing for a strict monitoring of wine in all stages of the winemaking process.
The barrel room, where wines are aged under optimum conditions, houses around 300 French and American oak barrels.
