The Sofitel Montevideo Hotel was the venue for a meeting that brought together business leaders, institutional representatives, and prominent speakers to discuss Uruguay’s participation in Expo Osaka 2025. The event, organized by the Center for Economic and Social Reality Studies (CERES), with the support of Uruguay XXI, highlighted the importance of this global event in which nations from around the world share their achievements, values, and cultural heritage.

A solid relationship with Japan

CERES Director Ignacio Munyo emphasized Uruguay’s historic relationship with Japan, which spans more than 100 years of economic and cultural cooperation. Munyo highlighted the potential for further strengthening these ties through the exhibition, opening up new possibilities for bilateral exchange.

For his part, Uruguay’s commissioner to Expo Osaka 2025, Benjamín Liberoff, shared encouraging figures on the impact of Uruguay’s participation: more than two million general visitors and 250,000 to the national pavilion. He said this exceeded initial expectations and consolidated the country’s international visibility strategy. Liberoff also highlighted the investment opportunities emerging in the Japanese market, especially for Uruguayan companies interested in expanding into Asia.

Consolidated business presence

The executive director of Uruguay XXI, Mariana Ferreira, highlighted the agency’s work in attracting Japanese investment to Uruguay. She also highlighted the leading role of Uruguayan companies already established in Japan, such as meat processing plants and wineries, which reflect the success of the country’s commercial presence in the Japanese market.

CERES business partners and representatives of public institutions interested in strengthening commercial ties with Japan and doing business during Expo Osaka 2025 attended the meeting.

Expo Osaka 2025 is shaping up to be a unique platform for Uruguayan companies to showcase their potential, establish business contacts, and explore new business opportunities.
