Uruguay celebrated Carlos Gardel's legacy with a special tribute at its pavilion at Expo Osaka

Within the framework of the Universal Expo Osaka 2025, Uruguay paid tribute to the legendary singer Carlos Gardel on the 90th anniversary of his death. The activation, held on June 24 at the country's stand, attracted more than 23,600 visitors in a single day, making it one of the most popular activities to date.

The proposal included the projection of audiovisual contents specially produced by the Official Broadcasting, Performances and Shows Service (SODRE), the Ministry of Tourism and TV Ciudad. The materials celebrated the life and legacy of the artist born in Tacuarembó, as stated in the record issued more than a century ago by the Uruguayan consulate in Buenos Aires.

The presentation was headed by an emblematic image of Gardel, specially donated by the Silva family for this occasion, which added symbolic value to the national stand. In addition, visitors received a commemorative badge inspired by tango, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Río de la Plata by UNESCO in 2009.

This initiative is part of a series of thematic activations that Uruguay has been developing at Expo Osaka with the aim of highlighting the country's historical and cultural milestones to an international audience. On June 20, Uruguay celebrated the arrival of its one millionth visitor to its stand, out of the more than eight million that have visited the exhibition since its opening on April 14.

New activities will soon be held on key dates for Uruguayan identity: July 16 will mark the 75th anniversary of the Maracanazo, one of the most emblematic sporting moments in Uruguay and in the history of world soccer, and August 25 will mark the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

With a solid, emotional and diverse cultural proposal, Uruguay continues to position itself as a country with history, talent and global vision in one of the most relevant scenarios in the world.
