The Uruguay Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka has surpassed 3,350,000 visitors, a symbolic figure equal to the country’s total population. The achievement was celebrated during the official mission led by Deputy Minister of Tourism Ana Claudia Caram and Mayor of Canelones Francisco Legnani, who carried out a program of tourism, commercial, and institutional promotion in Japan.
The visit began with a tour of the Uruguay Pavilion, accompanied by Ambassador to Japan Victoria Francolino, Consul General in Tokyo Maximiliano da Silva, and Pavilion Commissioner Benjamín Liberoff. From there, the delegation visited some of the Expo’s most notable spaces, including the Saudi Arabia Pavilion, designed by Foster + Partners with a focus on sustainability and innovation; the Baltic Pavilion, featuring the interactive “Wall of the Future”; and the joint pavilion of the Iida Group and Osaka Metropolitan University, which showcases a “sustainable Möbius” concept for urban planning and well-being.
The agenda continued with high-level meetings. Among the highlights was an exchange with Sheila Aggarwal-Khan, Director of the Industry and Economy Division of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), on topics including urban planning, electric mobility, waste management, and sustainability. The delegation also visited the France, Japan, and Germany pavilions, each presenting architectural and conceptual approaches linked to innovation and sustainable living.
A major highlight was the tasting of Uruguayan wines and olive oils, held in the Uruguay Pavilion with the support of Uruguay Wine and Asolur. Business leaders, authorities, media, and international representatives took part in the event, which showcased Uruguay’s reputation as an exporter of high-quality products in a demanding market like Japan.
The mission also included meetings with leading companies such as Hitachi, where discussions focused on smart cities, artificial intelligence applied to tourism, and technological innovation, as well as with Kawasaki, a key player in Japan’s heavy industry. In parallel, Deputy Minister Caram took part in Tourism Expo Japan 2025 in Aichi, where she met with officials from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, along with representatives of the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA), the country’s leading travel industry body.
According to Pavilion Commissioner Benjamín Liberoff, this new visitor record confirms “Uruguay’s appeal in a global scenario that combines business, culture, and tourism.” For their part, Caram and Legnani emphasized the mission’s value as another step in strengthening ties with Japan and promoting Uruguay internationally.
With an average of 20,000 visitors per day, Uruguay continues to consolidate its presence at Expo 2025 Osaka, reaffirming its strategy to promote investment, exports, tourism, and culture through an innovative and sustainable pavilion that is attracting the interest of millions worldwide.
