Uruguay is participating in the 48th edition of Expointer, which will be held from August 30 to September 7 in Esteio, Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). The fair, considered one of the most important in the world in agriculture, livestock, and agricultural machinery, is a key meeting point for business and regional cooperation in the sector.
The Embassy of Uruguay in Brazil, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Uruguay XXI, together with leading institutions such as IICA, INAC, INAVI, INALE, INIA, and the Union of Exporters, are promoting national participation with a country stand. Uruguayan companies will promote their exportable products and consolidate commercial ties with Brazilian counterparts there.
Uruguay Day: institutional and business meeting
On September 4 at 11 a.m., Uruguay will celebrate its main event within the framework of Expointer. Uruguay Day will be attended by the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, Alfredo Fratti; the Uruguayan ambassador to Brazil, Rodolfo Nin Novoa; and the Consul General in Porto Alegre, Marion Blanco, who will head the institutional delegation together with business representatives.
Brazil is a strategic trading partner for Uruguay. In 2024, Uruguayan exports to the Brazilian market totaled US$2.325 billion, with a basket dominated by vehicles (19%), dairy products (12%), malt (11%), as well as rice, beef, and auto parts.
Conversely, Uruguay mainly imported vehicles (26%), meat (9%), machinery (7%), and plastics and plastic products (5%), among other products, from Brazil. These trade flows reflect the complementarity of production and the dynamism of the bilateral relationship.
Uruguay’s presence at Expointer is also explained by the importance of Rio Grande do Sul as a destination and source of trade. In 2024, Uruguayan exports to this state reached US$383 million, equivalent to 17% of total sales to Brazil.
The most relevant products shipped from Uruguay to Rio Grande do Sul were rice (33%), dairy products (21%), plastics and plastic products (9%), unprocessed barley (6%), and wheat (4%). In turn, exports from Rio Grande do Sul to Uruguay were concentrated in vehicles (21%), machinery (11%), coffee and mate (10%), furniture (7%), and plastics (7%
Uruguay has consolidated its international reputation as an exporter of safe, sustainable, and high-quality food, with a strong specialization in beef, dairy products, rice, soybeans, and various agricultural products.
Its leadership is based on a model of traceability, animal welfare, and care for natural resources, which allows each product to be tracked from its origin to the final consumer. These attributes reinforce the confidence of the most demanding markets and highlight Uruguay as a reliable and responsible partner in international trade.
Expointer is a privileged opportunity to deepen bilateral relations and open up new business opportunities. In recent years, both countries have intensified their ties through joint projects, visits by business delegations, and institutional exchanges.
In this context, Uruguay XXI manages the stand and coordinates the private delegation, reinforcing the country’s commitment to promoting exports, investments, and its image.
Uruguay’s presence at Expointer 2025 thus reaffirms its position as a reliable and innovative agro-industrial player, while strengthening its historic closeness to Brazil.
