Uruguay XXI participated in the annual conference of the International Bar Association (IBA), one of the most significant global events for the legal community, held this year in Punta del Este. The event brought together leading legal professionals, international law firms, and representatives of legal associations from more than 170 countries, establishing itself as a key forum for analyzing trends in corporate and investment activity.

Founded in 1947, the IBA is the world’s leading organization of legal professionals, with more than 80,000 lawyers and nearly 190 legal associations among its members. Throughout its history, it has played a central role in promoting the rule of law and advancing the international legal framework, influencing regulatory reforms and the development of the profession worldwide.

The conference, organized by the IBA’s Latin American Regional Forum and Corporate and M&A Law Committee, focused on the theme “Mergers and Acquisitions in Latin America — Building Bridges Through Business: Rethinking M&A in the Americas.” During the event, participants addressed key challenges and opportunities related to mergers and acquisitions in the region, with particular emphasis on the current economic context.

The program included panels on competition law, cross-border transactions, dispute resolution, post-merger integration, energy, infrastructure, and natural resources. Emerging trends were also explored, including the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on corporate transactions, the growth of the digital economy, and the role of Chinese investment in Latin America. The increasing importance of sustainability and social impact in investment decisions was also highlighted, along with the role of lawyers in building more equitable markets.

Representing Uruguay XXI were Executive Director Mariana Ferreira, Investment Manager Alejandro Ferrari, and Investment Specialist Paola Mancino. The agency’s presence helped strengthen ties with key stakeholders in the legal and business ecosystem, while also positioning Uruguay as a reliable destination for investment and business development in the region.

Hosting this event in Uruguay reinforces the country’s position as a hub for high-level international meetings and as a strategic platform for promoting investment opportunities in Latin America.
