Uruguay XXI, together with Uruguayan companies from the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, conducted a trade mission to Mexico during the first week of December, with a focus on the city of Monterrey. The initiative aimed to promote Uruguay’s export offering of technology services and solutions, while exploring business opportunities in the Mexican market.
The delegation comprised nine Uruguayan companies—DaMap, DigitalProjex, Easy Consultores, GoDoWOrks, Nareia, Nodum, Seglico Software, THESE, and Urudata Software—which took part in a tailored agenda of meetings with potential clients and local partners. The agenda was designed and coordinated by the international consulting firm Global BMT, co-financed by Uruguay XXI, and supported by the Honorary Consulate of Uruguay in Monterrey.
In total, around 60 one-on-one meetings were held, focused on identifying business opportunities, strategic alliances, and potential joint projects with companies and institutions across the region’s technology and industrial ecosystem.
In addition to the individual meetings, the mission included a series of institutional engagements and networking activities with key stakeholders in the local ecosystem. Among these was a presentation by Andersen Tax & Legal, which provided an overview of Mexico’s business environment, as well as key legal and tax considerations for foreign companies seeking to operate in the country.
The agenda also featured a visit to the Monterrey IT Cluster, where the delegation toured the Center for Industrial Innovation in Artificial Intelligence (CII.IA) and held discussions with the organization’s leadership on trends, capabilities, and opportunities for cooperation. Several Uruguayan companies also met with representatives of the Monterrey National Chamber of Commerce, Services, and Tourism (CANACO) to explore potential synergies with its member companies.
Another highlight of the mission was a meeting with the Nuevo León Chamber of the Transformation Industry (CAINTRA), one of the state’s leading industrial organizations, representing more than 5,000 companies. During the meeting, CAINTRA officials shared insights into the challenges and opportunities facing Monterrey’s industrial sector and explored avenues for future collaboration looking ahead to 2026.
The mission forms part of Uruguay XXI’s broader strategy to position Uruguay as a regional technology hub and a global provider of ICT solutions. Uruguay offers a strong track record of political, social, and macroeconomic stability, a well-established innovation ecosystem, and a technology industry that has grown steadily for more than two decades. Today, the ICT sector accounts for 4.5% of national GDP and employs over 20,000 people.
Uruguay also benefits from its strategic location, a time zone between the United States and Europe, and a state-of-the-art digital infrastructure, all of which support the delivery of global services. The sector provides solutions across a wide range of areas, including custom software development, agtech, fintech, healthtech, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and cybersecurity.
Uruguay is the second-largest software exporter per capita in Latin America. While the United States accounts for 80% of ICT exports, Uruguayan technology services reach more than 50 markets worldwide, including the United Kingdom, Spain, Canada, Germany, and several Latin American countries, among them Mexico.
The trade mission to Monterrey underscores the Uruguayan ICT sector’s interest in deepening its presence in the Mexican market and strengthening ties with one of the region’s leading industrial and technology hubs.
