Life Sciences
Uruguay presents a solid track record and business opportunities for life sciences companies leveraging their business from Uruguay on different platforms that strengthen regional and global supply chains: Trade & Global Services hub (regional distribution centers, trading center and share services centers), Production hub (investing in new manufactorung facilities and acquiring local companies).
Many international companies combine more than one of these platforms consolidating their hubs for the southern cone.
In addition, Uruguay consolidates its position as a regional hub for diagnostic services companies and CROs.
TRADE & SERVICES CENTERS
Uruguay has a mature cluster of pharmaceutical companies that centralize their regional trade combining physical operations, trading (both sales and supply) and support services. It is made up of more than 20 pharmaceutical companies that register transits close to US$1 billion and a concentration of specialized suppliers (e.g. logistics services, packaging).
MANUFACTURING
The pharmaceutical industry - human and animal health - concentrates more than 60 manufacturing plants (32+28), oriented both to the domestic and export markets. In recent times there has been a process of concentration and acquisition of companies by multi-Latin and multinational companies.
DIAGNOSTICS & CRO
Relevant diagnostic services companies such as Brazil's DASA or the Chinese multinational BGI have located operations in Uruguay due to the operational facilities (sample entry), tax incentives and quality of talent. Also CROs centralize regional operations from Uruguay.
