Future Biome was named the world’s best startup at FoodTech 2025 in Lausanne, Switzerland. With operations in both Uruguay and Argentina, the biotech company was awarded for its innovative approach to gut health based on the development of precision prebiotic fibers.

More than 100 startups from 20 countries applied to participate in this edition. Only 36 advanced to the regional semifinals, and 10 reached the final in Switzerland. A jury of representatives from Givaudan and Nestlé Research and Development Lausanne selected Future Biome. This achievement reaffirms Uruguay’s positioning as a reliable platform for developing innovative solutions in health and wellness.

“This is a great opportunity for startups to demonstrate their ability to address global food-related challenges,” said Soledad Vela Gurovic, the company’s co-founder.

The recognition further confirms Uruguay’s appeal to innovative companies looking to scale globally. The country offers a favorable environment that combines economic stability, technical capabilities, qualified talent, and active public policies that foster investment and entrepreneurship. In this context, startups like Future Biome can scale their impact and leverage institutional and regional collaboration to reach new markets.
