The 26th edition of the Latin Grammys, to be held on November 13 in Las Vegas, will have a Uruguayan presence: Jorge Drexler and Julieta Rada are among the nominated artists, reaffirming Uruguay’s place on the Latin American music scene.

Drexler, ambassador for Marca País Uruguay and one of the most awarded Spanish-speaking singer-songwriters, will compete in two of the most prominent categories. His song Desastres fabulosos, recorded with Argentine Mateo Sujatovich (Conociendo Rusia), was nominated for Record of the Year, one of the main categories of the ceremony. He is also running for the Best Pop/Rock Song category award, where he shares the nomination with leading figures such as Joaquín Sabina and Leiva.

With over 30 years of experience, 14 albums released, and awards including an Oscar, 16 Latin Grammys, and a Goya, Drexler has been a natural ambassador for Uruguayan music worldwide. His nomination reaffirms the value of our artistic creation and its global reach.

For her part, Julieta Rada was nominated in the Best Folk Album category for Candombe, her most recent work. In this album, the artist revisits classics of this genre deeply linked to Uruguayan identity, from Rubén Rada’s Adiós a la Rama to Jaime Roos’ El tambor, reimagining them with a contemporary sensibility. This is the second nomination for her career after competing in 2015 for Best New Artist.

The presence of Drexler and Rada in this edition of the Latin Grammys also recognizes the richness and diversity of Uruguayan music. Candombe, singer-songwriter music, and fusion with new genres find in these artists a bridge to international audiences.
