Uruguay continues to explore opportunities for collaboration and growth within the framework of universal expositions. On this occasion, the Uruguayan delegation visited the Saudi Arabian pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025 and held a key meeting with Saudi authorities to learn details about the upcoming Expo 2030 to be held in Riyadh.
The Saudi Arabian pavilion in Osaka, designed by Foster + Partners, is inspired by traditional Saudi village architecture, with organic forms, narrow alleys and a central courtyard. This innovative space uses lightweight Saudi stone and low-carbon materials, with a prefabricated system for later disassembly and relocation. It also features solar panels, rainwater recycling and energy-efficient lighting fixtures, and is designed to achieve the highest CASBEE certification and zero operational emissions.
During the meeting, Saudi authorities shared details about Expo 2030 in Riyadh, an event that promises to be transformative on multiple levels: cultural, economic, social and environmental. Under the theme “The Era of Change” and with a comprehensive focus on innovation, sustainability and global inclusion, Expo 2030 Riyadh will be a truly international showcase for Saudi Arabia's ambitious Vision 2030 plan.
Total estimated investment in infrastructure and related cities is expected to reach US$92 billion, in line with sustainability goals. The expected impact is to attract 40 million in-person visitors and more than 1 billion online through the metaverse, generate thousands of jobs and boost hospitality, construction, services, transportation and tourism sectors.
Uruguay considers Expo 2030 Riyadh as a key platform that could offer a strategic opportunity to consolidate the 2030 vision and enhance the country's global reputation.
