XI Business Summit CHINA-LAC 2017

The China-LAC summit in Uruguay will bring together more than 700 entrepreneurs from China, Latin America and the Caribbean

China-LAC is the most important business summit between China and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. It will be held from November 30 to December 2 at the Punta del Este Convention Center, organized by the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and, this year, by the Institute of investment promotion, exports and country image, Uruguay XXI.

China-LAC 2017 will promote the convergence of business in strategic areas for Latin America and Uruguay, as well as for China. The summit will bring together more than 700 companies and the presence of prominent national authorities, senior officials and experts from China and Latin America, representatives of multilateral and international funding agencies.

The summit is a promotion mechanism and a platform that seeks greater economic cooperation, focused on boosting trade and investment. The program will include plenary sessions on trade relations between China and Latin America and the challenges of infrastructures in the new global economy. Parallel sessions will also be held on the key issues of China-LAC 2017: agribusiness and food security; global services; opportunities for cooperation in infrastructure, transport and energy; e-commerce and sustainable cities. The main challenges of each sector will be addressed, how to strengthen the relationship in each area and where  the main opportunities are.

In addition, business rounds and personalized meetings will be organized with leaders from each industry and authorities. It will also include the possibility of visiting and learning about some of the enclaves that define Uruguay as a gateway to opportunities in Latin America.

China-LAC has, in turn, an excellent infrastructure. The summit will be held at the Punta del Este Convention Center, recently opened, with capacity to host events and conferences for more than 4,000 people, located in one of the main tourist centers of America. The event is aimed at companies that want to deepen on the opportunities offered by China and Latin America as a destination, to know firsthand where the opportunities are in both regions, as well as to contact directly with businessmen and business leaders.

China is the main trading partner of Latin America and the Caribbean. The Asian country has become the second world source of foreign direct investment issuance. Chinese companies and business groups have established more than 6,000 companies abroad in more than 150 countries. It is also the world's leading exporter of goods and the second largest importer globally.

Uruguay is the main gateway to Latin America. Its geographical location, its proximity to the main regional destinations and its connectivity with the region are very important conditions for business development. The country also has great economic and political stability. Uruguay promotes a model of sustainable and inclusive development based on institutional strength, political and democratic stability, and the macroeconomic solidity that has meant 14 years of uninterrupted growth, with positive prospects for 2017 and 2018.
