Uruguay XXI participated in the 7th Air Cargo Day 2026 Congress, one of the leading international events on air cargo and logistics, held in Madrid and focused on the challenges and opportunities of global trade. Uruguay was the guest country at the session “Spain-Latin America: Multiplying Opportunities Between Europe, Mercosur, and Global Markets”, where it presented its strengths to establish itself as a regional hub for trade and international connectivity.
The event brought together authorities, companies, and organizations involved in air transport, logistics, and foreign trade from Europe and Latin America. In this context, Uruguay highlighted its strategic location, institutional stability, logistics infrastructure, and capacity to connect regional and international markets.
The agenda included the roundtable discussion “Uruguay and Spain. The Mercosur Agreement as a Strategic Opportunity”, in which Uruguay XXI Executive Vice President Martín Mercado participated, alongside representatives from Air Europa, the Port of Valencia, and Cesce. The discussion addressed the opportunities that the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union could generate for trade, investment, and productive integration between the two blocs.
During his presentation, Mercado provided an assessment of the economic impacts of the agreement for Uruguay and highlighted the European Union’s potential as one of the world’s leading import and investment markets. He also emphasized that the agreement represents “the greatest expansion of market access since the creation of Mercosur.”
“The agreement between Mercosur and the European Union represents a strategic opportunity for Uruguay to deepen its international integration, attract new investments, and strengthen its position as a logistics and business hub between Latin America and Europe,” stated Mercado.
Likewise, Uruguay XXI presented the initiatives it is promoting to support Uruguayan companies in taking advantage of the opportunities the agreement will open up. These include business intelligence tools, advice on regulatory requirements and certifications, training on rules of origin, and the development of digital platforms with practical information for exporters.
Uruguay’s participation in Air Cargo Day 2026 also helped strengthen ties with key players in the international logistics and airport ecosystem, as well as position the country as a reliable partner for global trade and distribution chains.
“Our stability, infrastructure, and commitment to openness to the world position us as a reliable partner for global value chains,” noted the executive vice president of Uruguay XXI.
