The Uruguay stand at Expo Osaka 2025 will welcome two million visitors. The figure, confirmed by the event organizers, represents a high point in the country’s international participation in this global exhibition.
Uruguayan Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin enthusiastically received the news and highlighted the collective effort behind the country’s presence in Japan. “The careful planning of our participation in Expo Osaka 2025 in Japan, in conjunction with the Uruguay XXI agency, was well worth the effort,” said the foreign minister. He added that “this work had a significant public and private presence, coordinated jointly with ministers, business leaders, senior officials, cultural representatives, and other figures, which will serve as a model for tackling other extraordinary challenges in the future.”
International celebration and cultural festival
To mark this symbolic milestone, the countries sharing the Commons-C pavilion—Croatia, Gabon, San Marino, Guatemala, Ukraine, Slovakia, Israel, Panama, Slovenia, Montenegro, and Uruguay—agreed to hold a special “activation” on Saturday, August 9, to celebrate the arrival of the two millionth visitor with the public.
The day will include activities for all ages in the central area of the pavilion, including interactive games for children (11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.), a question-and-answer contest (3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.), and a main event at 1:30 p.m., with the official recognition of the two millionth visitor.
It will be a true Expo celebration with music, prizes, and participation from the eleven countries involved. Uruguay particularly valued this event as “a concrete example of the value of international collaboration” and “how joint work between nations generates meaningful experiences for millions of people.”
The celebration will also highlight the values of unity, cultural diversity, and global integration, principles that have guided Uruguay’s proposal since the beginning of the event.
As part of the activity, Uruguay will present a special commemorative folder from the Uruguayan Post Office, containing stamps issued in memory of the atomic bombings of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945, at the end of World War II. The initiative marks the 80th anniversary of those tragic events and seeks to honor historical memory from a perspective of peace and global cooperation perspective.
According to official figures, Expo 2025 Osaka has already surpassed 14.8 million visitors in its first months of operation and is expected to exceed 22 million before its official closing on October 13, after six months of activity.
