Slidemagi, the new video game by Uruguayan studio Batovi Games, was nominated in the Best Game: Latin America 2025 category at Gamescom Latam, one of the region’s premier gaming industry events. This nomination solidified the game’s international positioning and reaffirmed Uruguay’s gaming ecosystem’s global projection.

Gamescom Latam was held in São Paulo, Brazil, bringing together studios, companies, and key industry figures across Latin America. Uruguay’s delegation was coordinated by Uruguay XXI, the Uruguayan Chamber of Video Game Developers (CAVI), and the Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency (ACAU) under the sector brand Uruguay Video Games.

Batovi Games was one of six Uruguayan studios present and stood out with Slidemagi, a turn-based strategy game that drew attention for its originality and innovative mechanics. “When you slide a row, you shift the line, including enemies, objects, and terrain. You can push them against edges or onto deadly tiles like spikes or poison. It’s very original in that sense, and I think that was key for the nomination,” explained the studio’s founder, Fernando Sansberro.

The event experience allowed the studio to receive direct feedback from the public and industry professionals for the game, which will soon be released to the general public. “I got to see people playing Slidemagi and talk to them in person — they usually spent quite a while playing. I’m bringing back important takeaways,” said Sansberro.

In addition to its showcase, Batovi strengthened ties with platforms like Steam, Xbox, and Apple, as well as with publishers and developers. “We always go with clear objectives: build relationships, validate the game with players, and gather new ideas,” he said, adding that the event helped move these goals forward.

Uruguay’s participation in Gamescom Latam also reinforced its image as a regional hub of creative talent. “It’s hard to imagine international events without Uruguayan representatives nowadays. Every instance helps position the country as a regional reference,” he emphasized.

Sansberro praised the institutional support. “The backing from Uruguay XXI and other organizations is excellent. For those just starting, it’s an essential support system,” he said.

Batovi Games continues to operate its football titles, such as Charrúa Soccer and Pixel Cup Soccer and plans to release Slidemagi on new platforms.

Driven by qualified talent, technological infrastructure, and an active support ecosystem, Uruguay is emerging as a reliable and creative partner in the development of internationally oriented tech industries. This latest participation in Gamescom Latam 2025 reaffirmed Uruguay's steady growth and increasing relevance in the global video game industry.
