Uruguayan Video Games Impress at Expo 2025 Osaka

Seven studios showcase their games in Japan under the Uruguay Video Games sector brand

Expo 2025 Osaka has become an outstanding platform to showcase Uruguay’s creative talent. Uruguay seized the opportunity to present its video game industry to one of the world’s most demanding audiences: the Japanese public. Beneath the umbrella of the Uruguay Video Games sector brand, seven Uruguayan studios are exhibiting their most recent and innovative titles at the national pavilion.

The game selection was made in partnership with the Uruguayan Chamber of Video Game Developers (CAVI), focusing on studios with games either localized or in the process of localization for the Japanese market. This curated display reflects the maturity and diversity of the local industry, featuring globally recognized titles and environmentally conscious proposals that combine technological innovation, narrative design, and a clear commitment to international expansion.

A glimpse of Uruguay’s development in this sector and the originality of its productions is evident in trend-setting games in the Asian market, such as Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance, the latest installment of the successful Kingdom Rush saga; the acclaimed Outlanders 2: Second Nature; and games with a strong focus on sustainability and conscious water use, like Water 2050. Recent releases such as Kingdom of Cards, which are already gaining fans in China and Japan, also stand out.

Meet the studios and titles representing Uruguay at Expo Osaka:

  • Ironhide Game Studio – Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance
  • Pomelo Games – Outlanders 2: Second Nature
  • Rubber Duck Games – Kingdom of Cards and Evil Wizard
  • Totem Games – Water 2050
  • Pixel Core Games – Ship Miner
  • Pi0h1 – Heat Division
  • Brunomir – Poison Noir: Desire, Time & Gangsters

One of the booth’s main attractions has been the ability to download the games via QR code and take them along on mobile devices. Visitors of all ages—including experts from Japan’s gaming sector—have praised the experience as innovative and convenient, highlighting the visual quality, storytelling, and gameplay pace as key differentiators.

Uruguay: A Growing Creative Hub

Uruguay’s participation in Osaka is the culmination of a long-term strategy that, for over a decade, has positioned the country as a regional hub for digital talent and innovation. Between 2013 and 2020, the number of video game studios in Uruguay doubled, and major international companies have chosen the country as a base for their regional operations.

Strong collaboration between public and private sectors, access to qualified talent, institutional stability, and an export-driven mindset have positioned Uruguay as a relevant player in the global video game industry.

This positioning has been reinforced by its sustained presence at international fairs such as GDC, Gamescom, and now Expo 2025 Osaka, where the country proudly presents the best of its creative capacity.

Uruguay’s experience in Japan confirms the growing international interest in its video games. It opens new doors for business, partnerships, and distribution in the Asian market—one of the most competitive and eager for original, high-quality content.
