Ruben “El Negro” Rada

Musician, composer, singer and percussionist. Precursor in the fusion of candombe with beat music and rock, he is considered an avant-garde artist with a wide career both in Uruguay and the world.

Ruben "El Negro" Rada is a musician, composer, singer and percussionist of Uruguayan origin.

Considered a multifaceted artist with a fresh approach, his origins in the music industry date back to his participation in the Comparsa Morenada at the age of 10.

Precursor of candombe beat, a genre that fuses candombe with beat music and rock, as a result of his contribution a musical revolution was born, which began in the 60's and reached its maximum expression in the 70's, with the popularity of the bands El Kinto and Tótem, of which Rada was a referent.

His music broke down frontiers, his albums "Montevideo" and "Montevideo II" went platinum in Uruguay and were released in countries such as Japan, France, Italy, Sweden, Germany and the United States.

Since then, his musical career has been recognized on multiple occasions through the Graffiti and Gardel Awards, as well as the "Honorary Degree of Master of Latin Music" from Berklee College of Music in the United States and the Award for Musical Excellence granted by the Latin Grammy Awards.
