The 2020 Index, published by The Economist Intelligence Unit and sponsored by Corteva Agriscience -a global agricultural company 100% focused on the development of technologies and solutions for agriculture-, presented regional reports that provide highlights and an analysis of the performance of each region. In this new edition, out of 19 Latin American countries, the region ranked fifth in the world, and Costa Rica topped the list, followed by Uruguay, with a score of 71.4%, then Chile, Panama and Mexico.

Among the factors for which our country has stood out the most is its regional leadership based on the commitment it made with its National Climate Change Adaptation Plan for Agriculture. Natural Resources and Resilience marked a significant change in methodology, revealing the resilience of food systems in the face of climate change. In this area, Uruguay leads the region in first place, with a score of 68.6%, followed by Costa Rica (66%).

The concept of food deficit takes into account that cultural, environmental and geographic characteristics are involved in this problem.
