Uruguay inaugurated its pavilion at Expo Dubai, the first universal exposition to take place in an Arab country, with the aim of showing its essence, according to its general commissioner and executive director of Uruguay XXI, Sebastián Risso.

The Uruguayan pavilion shows with a multimedia exhibition and several explanatory videos that the country is a major food producer, an area in which the United Arab Emirates is in deficit, according to Risso.

In addition to showing the public the characteristics of a sustainable and technologically leading economy, Uruguay seeks to promote itself as an investment destination.

"Visitors who come to see us will realize that we are a friendly country," Risso said.

With this objective in mind, for six months "Uruguay wants to take advantage of this Expo" and there will be a large number of institutional and business meetings, taking advantage of the opportunity that "a spectacular event in a country with a vibrant economy" represents.

Under the slogan "Test Uruguay" visitors can learn first-hand about its essentially innovative character, with a skilled workforce and open doors for those who choose it as a place to live, work and invest.

Uruguay also showcases its achievements in terms of freedom, social equality, quality of life and its advanced educational system, with the implementation of the Ceibal Plan -One Laptop per Child-.

It is a country that has much to offer, especially its food industry, but also information technology services and logistics, said the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Omar Paganini.

"Uruguay, a country of three million people, produces food for 30 million, so we are a net exporter country, with an efficient, competitive agribusiness, which has quality levels recognized worldwide," he said during his visit to Uruguay's pavilion at Expo Dubai.

Paganini considered that the United Arab Emirates is "an ideal area (...) due to its need for food imports", since it is a desert country with almost no production.

Likewise, logistics is another interesting sector for Uruguay, said the minister, who stressed that "the powerful logistics of the Gulf can be complemented with the distribution in the south of America".

For all these reasons, Uruguay is interested in being present at Expo Dubai, which takes place between October 2021 and March 2022 in the emirate of Dubai.

The minister proceeded to cut the inaugural ribbon of the pavilion, to the applause of the attendees, who were able to enjoy a tango exhibition by two dancers.

The pavilion also features premium export products such as olive oils, honey, merino wool and leather garments and accessories, among others. At its wine bar, visitors can taste its wines, recognized worldwide for their character and quality.

Visitors can also get to know traditional Uruguayan amethysts, stones originating in the north of the country, of intense violet color, which can range from a few kilos to more than 10 tons.

In the soccer corner, they will enjoy one of the trophies obtained by Uruguay, which has been four times world champion and 15 times champion of America. Also, through a giant screen with augmented reality you will be able to interact with the players of the Uruguayan national soccer team and try to convert a penalty kick.

Upstairs in the pavilion there are offices and meeting rooms available for Uruguayan businessmen and entrepreneurs who need to coordinate their business activities and seek to explore and develop opportunities in new markets.

Uruguay's National Day at Expo Dubai will be on February 21, 2022, when this pavilion will be the protagonist of the Emirati exhibition.

Expo Dubai, which has 192 participating countries, has as its motto "Connecting minds, building futures" and will be developed around three axes: opportunity, mobility, sustainability.
