Uruguay XXI and its counterpart of Spain for the promotion of exports and investments signed on April 26 a cooperation agreement with the objective of improving knowledge about each market and strengthening the export capacity of national companies in each country. This agreement is part of the official visit of the Spanish Prime Minister to Uruguay, Mariano Rajoy.

It is an agreement of exchange, support and cooperation in different aspects related to the promotion of each country, and in third markets of benefit for both. It aims to deepen the relations between both entities, and promote commercial links between Spanish and Uruguayan companies, in addition to promoting collaboration for the internationalization of micro, small and medium enterprises in both countries.

The agreement involves the exchange of material and information on each market in order to improve mutual knowledge about the legal and economic environment, and about commercial and investment conditions. In this sense, both parties undertake to identify opportunities for joint action within the framework of their annual plan of activities.

On the other hand, the agreement is aimed at identifying business opportunities, whether commercial or investment, that may arise in both markets for Spanish and Uruguayan companies, in third markets of interest, financed by financial entities or multilateral development agencies

Antonio Carámbula, executive director of Uruguay XXI, highlighted in this respect the fact that "the agreement also supposes the reciprocal assistance for the organization of commercial promotion activities, such as fairs, or commercial missions. This is extremely relevant for Uruguay because it means having the support of a relevant partner in Europe. Spain is a very important partner for us and surely this is significant towards the deepening of commercial relations with Europe ".

For its part, the president of ICEX, María Luisa Poncela, stressed the importance of deepening the areas of cooperation between two historically linked countries. "We believe it is very important to help us find the best opportunities for our companies, and this agreement will allow us to provide them with more information about Uruguay and provide quality information on the opportunities that Uruguayan companies have in Spain."

The agreement has an expected duration of 2 years, with the possibility of extending it by mutual agreement between the parties. It also responds to the interest of both countries to strengthen institutional relations at the bilateral level, and with counterparts from third countries, especially Latin America, the Caribbean and the European Union.

Uruguay XXI and ICEX are also committed that the agreement will support the consolidation of the Ibero-American Network of Promotion Agencies
