Uruguay is globally recognized for its open and welcoming attitude towards immigrants. The country’s agile and non-discriminatory policies make it an excellent choice for those seeking a new home.
In addition, the country established a residence permit for digital nomads to encourage more talent from abroad to live and work in the country. It is designed for individuals who work for foreign companies or are self-employed and enables them to reside in Uruguay for at least six months.

Its way of life is in line with what Montevideo offers, with its European cultural influence and relaxed lifestyle, as well as being a city on a human scale.

With its 3.4 million inhabitants, Uruguay symbolizes social peace, stable democracy, and peaceful coexistence. It enjoys one of the lowest inequality rates in the region, which, together with one of the highest GDPs per capita, makes its capital city an attractive and safe place. Its social and political stability, as well as the sustained growth of its economy over the last 15 years, have also made it an ideal place to invest.

The global consulting firm Mercer has been conducting surveys on the quality of life in cities worldwide for 20 years. Mercer is a professional services firm Marsh & McLennan Companies subsidiary and uses the index to advise its multinational clients on expatriate compensation and international employee relocations.

Montevideo is followed regionally by San Juan (Puerto Rico) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). Globally, it is topped by Vienna (Austria), Zurich (Switzerland), and Auckland (New Zealand).
