Indra Group, one of the world’s leading companies in aerospace, defense, and advanced digital technologies, has launched a new technology center in Uruguay to provide services and support for critical civilian and military systems, which will serve projects in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay. The facility, located at the No. 1 Brigade Base in Montevideo, expands the company’s presence in the Southern Cone and will centralize engineering, maintenance, and logistics capabilities related to defense and air traffic management.

The center is part of Indra’s international network of In-Service Support Centers (ISSC), created to bring support capabilities closer to the countries where its systems operate, reduce response times, and support the systems’ entire lifecycle. From Uruguay, the center will provide technical and operational assistance, preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, updates, and modernization of radars, radios, communications systems, and other high-availability equipment.

The facilities are equipped with automated test benches and advanced tools for the diagnosis and recovery of complex electronic systems. They will also enable tasks related to technology obsolescence management, configuration control, remote support, on-site interventions, training, and the supply of spare parts and consumables.

The opening of the center will allow work to be carried out in Uruguay that until now had to be done abroad, with the goal of strengthening operational autonomy and local technological capabilities. According to the company, the project also calls for the hiring of specialized technical personnel, knowledge transfer, and cooperation with universities to train highly qualified professionals.

Officials from the Uruguayan Air Force and the Ministry of Defense participated in the inauguration, along with representatives from the Indra Group. Andrés Burghi, the company’s director of Air Traffic and Defense for the Southern Cone, noted that the initiative seeks to strengthen regional capabilities and position Uruguay as a leading center for high-tech systems support.

The new infrastructure complements the contract signed in February 2025 between Indra and the Uruguayan government to modernize the country’s aerial surveillance system. The agreement includes the upgrade of two Lanza 3D radars—one fixed at Santa Clara de Olimar and one mobile—the addition of Gap Filler mobile radars, the strengthening of air defense command and control capabilities, and the acquisition of an MSSR radar for Carrasco International Airport.

With this investment, Uruguay gains new capabilities in a highly specialized technological field and establishes itself as a regional hub for services related to defense and air traffic management systems.
