Uruguayan President, Luis Lacalle Pou, received the Gold Insignia Award from the Americas Society - Council of the Americas (AS-COA) in New York City, United States. “I am honored to receive this award, thinking of what we can still do,” said the president.

During the ceremony, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of AS-COA, Andrés Gluski, said President Lacalle Pou was recognized with the organization’s highest distinction for his outstanding leadership and vision for Uruguay. “At a time when our region is facing serious challenges, Uruguay is a true model of democracy and economic progress, not only for Latin America but for the world,” he said.

As part of his trip to the United States to receive this distinction, President Lacalle Pou also met with his U.S. counterpart, Joe Biden.

President Biden highlighted Uruguay’s strong democratic values: “a moral force in the region,” and expressed his willingness to strengthen the partnership with the country, which he described as exemplary.
