On February 3 in Beijing, Uruguay XXI and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at deepening cooperation in trade and investment between Uruguay and China. The signing took place as part of the official mission led by President of the Republic Yamandú Orsi and was one of several bilateral agreements concluded during the visit, coinciding with the 38th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The memorandum reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to create additional trade and investment opportunities, based on equality and mutual benefit, and establishes an institutional framework to strengthen bilateral economic and business relations.

Under the agreement, Uruguay XXI and the CCPIT will support and coordinate joint trade and investment promotion activities, organize reciprocal business delegations, co-host events and B2B meetings, and exchange economic and commercial information on a regular basis to help identify new opportunities.

The memorandum also establishes a permanent working mechanism and promotes cooperation in strategic and high-value-added sectors, including the digital economy, smart manufacturing, clean energy, and low-carbon technologies, alongside traditional areas such as trade, agriculture, infrastructure, investment, rural development, and finance. It further encourages business community participation in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

In addition, the agreement provides for the creation of a business dialogue platform, the development of joint training and capacity-building programs, and cooperation in international trade fairs, exhibitions, and economic forums in China, Uruguay, and third markets.

With the signing of this memorandum, Uruguay XXI strengthens its strategic partnership with one of China’s leading trade and investment promotion institutions, in line with Uruguay’s international integration strategy and its goal of generating new opportunities for the country’s productive sector.
