The Deputy Executive Director of Uruguay XXI, Eduardo Rodríguez, and the Competitive Intelligence Manager, Mariana Ferreira, received a distinguished delegation from the Economic Commission of the German Federal Parliament to whom they presented the advantages that Uruguay offers as an investment destination.

In their presentation, they underlined the characteristics that position Uruguay as a reliable partner for long-term business development, such as the clarity of its rules, transparency, reliability, and political and economic stability.

They also emphasized the excellent quality of life enjoyed by those who choose Uruguay to live and do business, as well as the favorable regulations that cover domestic and foreign investors equally. “By law, domestic and foreign investors are treated the same, and we have a single tax regime,” Rodriguez stressed, marking a crucial attraction point for foreign investment.

The German delegation showed particular interest in Uruguay’s good positioning in ESG (environmental, social, and governance) factors and its commitment to sustainability, which places it on par with the most prominent countries in this area. They were also interested in the high level of training of the population and the talent available in the country, as well as in the significant Investment Law that facilitates business development.

Parliamentarian Michael Grosse-Brömer, in statements to the Uruguayan newspaper El País, praised the economic direction imposed by the government of Luis Lacalle Pou and described Uruguay as a factor of economic and political stability in the region, highlighting its accurate performance in energy policies, among other aspects.

The delegation’s visit also included meetings with key figures in the Uruguayan government, such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Omar Paganini; the Minister of Industry, Elisa Facio; and the Vice-President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón, with whom they held “excellent conversations,” according to Grosse-Brömer.

The German embassy in Uruguay also issued a statement highlighting the long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries, emphasizing cooperation in renewable energies.

The energy agreement signed in 2023, which establishes a framework for technical cooperation and knowledge exchange for the joint development of renewable sources and alternative fuels, was highlighted as an essential step towards strengthening these ties. The German delegation paid particular attention to the potential development of green hydrogen in Uruguay, marking a clear interest in collaborating towards a greener and more sustainable economy.

This meeting between Uruguay XXI and the German delegation reflects the interest and confidence in the capabilities and future of Uruguay as a destination for investment and cooperation. It shows the shared commitment to sustainable development and innovation in renewable energy.
